He started in the lead and was immediately followed by the big opponent of the day, the Frenchman Titouan Carod, who then climbed onto the podium in second place, and by the home favourite, the still not yet 23-year-old Filippo Colombo.
The rider from Bironico, the best-known talent in Canton Ticino, had already stood on the podium, several times as a winner, in almost all the races organised by his Velo Club Monte Tamaro since he has been a rider. He has not yet managed to win it as a 'prof' but, due to a puncture, had to pull out of the lead already halfway through the 7 long laps of the Ceneri forest.
The women's elite race was also memorable. An impeccable performance by Pauline Ferrand-Prévot, Frenchwoman and former world champion. She won her first European title, followed by the Dutch Anna Terpstra and the Ukrainian Yana Belomoina. Unexpectedly off the podium were the Swiss: Sina Frei was fourth, but the very blonde Jolanda Neff was also expected at the top, who unfortunately withdrew.
